My free-form Lab Notes, for the Actors Action Lab - Started on 10/13/08

My first steps involved looking at the Dervin Tables. I am sometimes enamored of technology and I would rather use a computer to rework something than type in a bunch of stuff by hand. I reworked the pdf files provided to turn the tables into spreadsheet files [.xls]. Along the way, I have looked at the files and done a first round of thinking about them.

I have an old copy of Omnipage Professional, which is a pretty capable program. It will not read and process a .pdf file, so I printed and scanned to get .jpg files, which I could process with a minimum of manual cleanup to produce .xls files. I have attached these files to the lab page in case anyone would like to use them.

After a little delay--I have gone through Dervin Table 3.1 and modified a copy of it by adding my comments--reflecting only my own thoughts and without the benefit of any interviews. I've put some thoughts inline at the front of that spreadsheet. I have attached this to the lab topic.

I am impressed as I read the table that there is a body of knowledge I am not familiar with and I am only guessing at what may be denoted to the knowledgable reader by some of the terminology used. I would have to do a lot of reading I haven't even started yet to feel sure I understood some of the terminology Dervin uses.

On Tuesday afternoon, I have added to the 'Attached' an annotated copy of Dervin Table 3-2
