Welcome to LabPrimer
LabPrimer is a set of technical best practice guidelines primarily intended for web 2.0 / science 2.0 research labs.
Navigating LabPrimer
You can work with the materials several ways, depending on your preference:
- all in one (warning, there's lots of stuff!), in the form of ServerAdminGuidelines
- in related clumps, listed in the navigation bar on the left
- as individual bite-sized topics, although that is currently a bit messy, as it can only be done from the WebTopicList. We need to get TWikiForms sorted out for our InformationArchitecture for this to be implemented cleanly.
A brief history of LabPrimer
When someone becomes a new PhD in biology, they have a wide variety of materials available to them, including several books to choose from, advising them on the nitty-gritty day to day of how to establish their labs, manage their resources, etc. When we started this project, no such materials existed for labs in computing, leaving each of us to make the same mistakes for ourselves. Very inefficient
HilaryHolz started collaborating on this set of materials with friends in industry and academia in 2002. It has gone through many versions over the years. Please join us; questions are as valuable as answers.
